I confess, I'm an ice tea drinker. First thing in the morning 'till late afternoon I usually have a glass going. I stop around five in the evening so the caffeine won't keep me awake but otherwise I drink continuously. I can't even get in the car for a ride to the store without my tea.
To make my tea, I've been using the old tea kettle on the stove method. When it whistles, I poor the boiling water in an old coffee maker glass carafe with four tea bags in it. Most of the time I can't wait for it to cool so after it steeps for a few minute, I poor the hot tea over ice I've put in a glass. This method works but often I start the kettle heating and go off doing things and I don't hear the kettle whistle. By the time I remember, half the water boils away. To make my tea this way there's multiple trips to the kitchen.
Recently I visited my brother-in-law. He and his wife are ice tea drinkers too. He showed me his tea maker. He fills the reservoir to the line with water, puts five tea bags in the top, fills a plastic decanter with ice and sticks the spout of the decanter in a slot. When it's all done he has ice tea.
On the way home, it's a six hour drive, I told my wife I really want an ice tea maker. We talked price for a bit and then she suggested that since I was already using the carafe, why not try using the coffee maker. Well, there you go, that's why she's paid the big bucks.
When I got home I dug out that old coffee maker and cleaned it up. I put four tea bags in the basked and filled the reservoir with water. Before you know it, I had a pot of tea just as good as my old method and less steps to make. I can even do this in the morning with one eye open and out of tea that's already made. Yes, I still occasionally have to poor hot tea over ice but this works for me.
So being the economy minded person I am, (my wife calls me cheap) I'll give up the idea of an ice tea maker. Who needs it?

Losing weight with minimal effort seems to be goal of nearly everyone these days. This is how fitness infomercials make an endless amount of money, promising results that are miraculous but without sweating too much at it.
So how do you get into shape and lose those unwanted pounds? Where can you get a challenging workout that will get you into the perfect shape you’ve desired all along? If you prefer not exercising during difficult weather conditions, why not get a cardio exercise done in the comfort of your home. But to have a complete workout which is not limited to various weather conditions, you will either have to join a gym or buy fitness equipment for your home. The advantage that home gyms allow is convenience and ease of use. This is where home fitness equipment plays a vital role in your life. Home fitness equipment is growing in demand and popularity. According to statistics in the year 2000, users spent up to $6.7 billion on home fitness equipment.
When setting up your home fitness equipment the first consideration is to choose the proper location to store your equipment. You can store the equipment in the basement. But in case the basement is damp and dark, it will not be a motivating and inspiring workout. The second consideration is storing it in the den, family room or an extra bedroom. The location must be ventilated and provide sufficient light. Having a television in your workout room is appropriate especially for those who enjoy watching soap operas and listening to the latest news.
When determining which home fitness equipment you should purchase, you need to take note of the goals you intend to achieve using these machines and what sort of exercises will get you into shape. Many homes are filled with equipment that are unused and substitute for many things other than exercising, such as clothe hangers. People too often rush to buy fitness equipment as soon as an infomercial calls it the latest fad! Later they realize that the equipment bores them and is not built properly to deliver miraculous results. Another mistake people make is purchasing cheap fitness equipment that constantly requires repair and produces unsatisfactory results. For instance, if you purchase a cheap treadmill you will realize that it can be noisy, unstable and shock your joints.
For runners and walkers the logical choice is a treadmill. The latest treadmill models are built for a good cardio workout and strength building. A treadmill effectively allows you to lose weight and burn calories quickly. This is why treadmills are the most popular choice when buying home fitness equipment. Choose your treadmill depending on its width and length and how this aligns with your stride. If you are a tall runner, select a stretch model with a reasonable deck and proper cushioning for ankles, knees and feet.
Another option for working out at home is buying a home gym. Home gyms contain up to fifty exercises and offers strength building for your whole body. It also allows more than one individual to use it at the same time. A multi home gym allows the user to complete an entire body workout in the comfort of your home.
There are many advantages to buying fitness equipment for your home. It will work out cheaper than gym memberships in the long term, especially for a family. And these days there are many multipurpose home gym equipment items that allow a wide range of exercises.
Sunderland are hopeful that England striker Darren Bent will be fit for Monday's Premier League fixture against Blackburn Rovers.
Bent missed England's Euro 2012 qualifier with Montenegro on Wednesday after picking up a groin problem while on international duty.
The seven-goal striker was immediately made a doubt for the trip to Ewood Park.
However, following scans on Bent's return to the north east, Black Cats boss Steve Bruce is upbeat about his chances of being passed fit.
"Darren's had a scan and his injury is not too serious," he told the club's official website.
"You're always concerned if a player picks up a groin injury.
"If the game against Blackburn was this Saturday I'd say he had no chance of playing, but given that it's Monday he's got half a chance of being fit for it.
"We'll keep monitoring the situation and we'll see how he is come Monday."

Alpine has numerous stars. Gary Gales is one of them. Dr. Gales, a 2004 graduate of the doctoral program at the U of M, was the first PT hired at Alpine back in 2005..
He’s watched our clinic grow from a PT or two to now 11 at Alpine since he came aboard in 2oo5. Gary passionately pursues excellence as a physical therapist. In fact, if he’s not enjoying all that Montana has to offer, he’s probably at a weekend conference for higher education in the realm of physical therapy.
Even Gary needs a break now and then. That’s why it’s such a pleasure to see him pursuing passions other than physical therapy. For instance, he took a week to explore Alaska and catch some mighty fine fish. Here’s a picture of Gary with another monster Salmon caught just below Bing’s Landing out of Soldatna, Alaska just a couple weeks ago. Go Gary! He’s the tall guy on the right.

(UPDATE: Adds quote from 24 Hour Fitness spokeswoman.)
Maybe if I’d enrolled in 24 Hour Fitness’ new “finger scan” system during the after-work crush I’d feel different about the process, but because I strolled in for a late-morning, early-lunch workout, it was a breeze.
This is the system that caused a lot of consternation among our readers when we first wrote about it seven weeks ago. Most commenters were cool with the idea that their local gym would scan their finger with a little light-up touch-pad thing in lieu of swiping their cards.
Others, however … wow. You’d have thought we were suddenly living under the regime of Kim Jong Il and his doughy son. “Joe” wrote: “No….Not no, but “HELL NO”! This is just Big Brothers way of keeping more tabs on people. You can say all you want about “We do not store a fingerprint, nor can the data we store be re-created into a fingerprint image.” This is just another example of ‘We The People” (losing) another right to privacy.”
However, another commenter, BillyBob, noted that “if you are a member, they have ALL your information anyway.”
Here’s how you enroll: Give the guy your card, and he’ll ask you to come up with a 10-digit “check-in code” (your phone number is an easy one). Then zap your right index finger three times onto the touch-pad thing, then the left index finger. This is so you can still check in if you happen to smash one or the other finger in a stack of weights.
Each time afterward, you’ll have to punch in the 10-digit code to the keypad, then press one of your fingers onto the gizmo one time (just once), and you’re on your way.
It should be noted that the system doesn’t actually store your fingerprint. It uses a biometric company’s software that measures the distance between key points, to come up with a distinct scan for each person.
You can abstain from the finger-scan and still be a member. You’ll just have to show your 24 Hour Fitness card and another form of picture ID, like a driver’s license, to get in. The guy at the front desk at the Foothill Ranch Sport said only about five people in the whole location had declined to enroll in the scan.
I bumped into one of them. Sylvia Pratt of Coto de Caza said she hadn’t received anything in the mail (or by e-mail) from 24 Hour Fitness about the new system (neither did I), and so she wasn’t in a hurry to sign up. “I don’t know. It’s just weird,” she said.
On Tuesday, 24 Hour Fitness responded to my question about how the system is running. A spokeswoman e-mailed that “as of last Friday over one million members were enrolled in our cardless check-in system; and there are still several markets that have not received it. In addition, the feedback has been very positive especially since it is not mandatory to enroll.”
What has your experience been with the finger-scan technology? Are you still concerned about it, or is it no big deal?
